|
|
I have just bought myself an immaculate 82 TF SL/X for $300, so I am going to try to get her on the road as a daily driver for starters.
I am after some info regarding the slight changes between models, and just an idea of how long the TF was around, before TG came and what changed for TG.
The wreckers are telling me that TFs are a little harder to come by, and my dad accidentally picked up what I think is a TE indicator assembly, the wreckers thought it was a TF unit.
I haven't driven her yet, my knee is still healing, but I was a passenger when my mate drove her home. She appears to drive well, considering she has air shox on the back. I'll swap over my shox, wheels and tyres, and maybe my TX engine and 5spd.
Hopefully the engine swap won't cause dramas, am I better off registering her with the current engine and swapping later or swapping now and registering with the TX engine and its numbers that way the boys in blue don't nag me?
Thanx |

The TF is rarer as it was only available from March 1982-March 1983.
The TF has the TE's square headlights, but a different grille made up of heaps of squares. However the TF Gemini SL/X, the top of the range, had a TG front.
Just to be extra confusing, the base model TG sedan and panelvan had a TF front.
Other than the fronts, there is no massive difference between the TF and TG models.
However, the differences between the TE model and it's later cousins include:
dashboard - TE's is similar to the earlier models - totally redesigned for TF
front fenders - TE has indicator repeaters on the fenders
tail lights - different on the TE

Coolies, thanx Dave, much appreciated.
As mine is an SL/X that would explain why the indicators were wrong, so I am really after TG indicators. The funny things mount 90degrees to the earlier models.
Mine also has the nicer slat grille.
I was going to keep her as basic transport, but I have ideas in my head for making her special. How does one remove such impure thoughts from one's head? |

Don't forget that the TE's were the last gem with real steel bars - despite the rubber ends. This must have been cool back then coz other cars such as the TE cortina's had this too.
Cheers

Yeah, they came with the TD SL/E and the TE SL/X as well, but from the TF they came with the SL as well as the SL/X, leaving just the base model sedan and panelvan with the crumby trim. |
