I can tell you now that if you put your sub in the boot behind the petrol tank they will make a lot of noise and occasionaly sound allright but if your subs are anything better than pioneer or kenwood then your wasting your time. Do some mods!!! I've just pulled my subs out cos' it sounded like shit in the car but awesome when you opened the boot. As well as this you put a decent sub in the boot in a gemini with the fuel tank there and you would be lucky to fit a banana in there. |

Saying that you have to get brand name subs for them to 'sound good' is complete and utter bullshit.
YOu can get average jaycar subs or even no names and they will sound decent as long as you set them up right. Facing them towards the boot will make them louder but no necessarily better. The fuel tank makes little difference as you are using alot of metal surfaces as a resonator (ever notice your rear view mirror shaking?)
DO some resarch on the way speakers behave and their proper specs (not just how many watts) and then tell me what brands 'sound better'
cheers

The fuel tank and back seat muffle the bass and add more rattles wanker! And yeah kenwood and that jaycar shit, can make noise, and suffice for some, Ive been there done that. Sounded like you just wrote an advertisment out of hot fours. I don't need stats, and facts I can hear it. You put a focal split next to a kenwood split, and you'll now what I'm talking about. Yeah that stuff works makes noise and you can get it sounding good even in the boot, with the fuel tank. BUT if you really care about good sound! You'll take the time to buy decent brands and move the frigging brick wall. I dare you for one minute mr facts and stats to go and listen to the difference between you jaycar shit and focal or clarion, and it should blow your mind unless your deaf. Its all about quality mate, I didn't say they didn't work. GO AND LISTEN. To the difference. Its not QUANTITY its quality. AND YOU PAY FOR IT. |

That is so true, man. I cant believe these dick heads think they've got an argument. It's called being good at what you do and jaycar aren't as good as clarion at building speakers and they're not even in the same league as focal. I guess it's all about ears, if you've got supercheap ears then I guess jaycar will do. Very refreshing tom and phucking true anyone else agree with tom, I don't care If you don't you can all go and listen to average stereos I know what sounds good!!!! |

I was referring to the bit about the fuel tank, I should have been more specific... apologies. (and as such, I will only reply to the section of your post which is in reference to the fuel tank)...
Qoute: "The fuel tank and back seat muffle the bass and add more rattles wanker!"
First point, personal insults do not belong in this forum, just don't do it, ok?
Second Point... "They muffle bass"... this point has been raised before, I had the pleasure of testing this theory with an identical setup before and after we removed the back seat and fuel tank... The only audible difference... a slight degradation in the sound to noise ratio... all speakers, no matter how well made and no matter how clean the signal, produce some white noise, which is most audible (due to the non-linear nature of the way the human ear recieves and interprets different frequencies of sound) in the higher frequencies... now whilst having the rear seat/fuel tank act as a buffer to this sound is not an ideal outcome, in a practical situation it still happens and works...
Third Point, "and add more rattles" Your car rattles? now why is this? because the factory didn't design it to be a perfect sound stage... So you have to be more careful in your install, any large flat surfaces should have some weight(bitumenous tar body deader, sound deadening mats, you seem like a capable person, you know what I mean) added to stop them resonating... Problem items should be firmly fixed in place, with rubber washers if necessary... It doesn't take much work at all to solve most problems... just simple things... like a rubber grommet around the metal hooks which attach the rear seat upright...
I hope this resolves any concerns you have and eagerly await your (polite) reply. |

I still disagree, do you port the boot through the parcel shelf or is it just a box in the boot. I guarantee that the petrol tank and seat affect the quality of the bass. Its just common sense I can't belive I am arguing about this. If you have a 40 litre tank of fuel between you and the speaker it is going to affect the volume and quality of the reproduced sound. It is common sense. There have already been me and another person who have commented on the fact the bass when you open the boot is better. Why you ask cos there is not a fuel tank in your face. I mean honestly mate you can throw your little big db theories around as much as you like. But you don't see geminis in there doing really well with a fuel tank in the way. I'm not saying you can't get bass and big bass with the fuel tank where it is. But I know from experience and common sense that a wall in between you and the sound effects the quality and volume. Noise travels in waves mate. And I really loved the way you backed off about the whole jaycar business, that's called not having a leg to stand on |

I'm another person who has put subs in the boot and found that they were loud and were allright untill i got over the fact that they were just loud, but sounded very poor. I put a drop tank in and ported through my rear seat. and I can say with pleasure that the difference was incredible I now know that they sound so much better without the fuel tank and also I will agree on the "better" brands Jay car works but It's not even close to "good" move your fuel tank or get a life and by a mirage or a barina you silly stereo wanks. |

Just to add more fuel to the fire...liquid actually transfers sound better than air because it is far more dense. therefore, in theory, a full fuel tank would transfer the bass from the boot to the passenger compartment more effetivley than no tank at all...??? |

you sure have a lot of friends with the same ip address. @ 40Hz the wave form is 50 foot long, a fuel tank and back seat are not going to make a hell of a lot of difference to the quality of the sound. If it really worries you that much then just put the thing on your back seat, or better yet rip out your back seats and install an anclosure. |

hey werent you arguinfg against me in this b4?? saying the fuel tank made a difference?? i dont know.
Anyway, the people who say that subs sound better with the boot open, why face them at the boot then?? it totally contradicts your theory. metal is there to bounce the sound. |

Well all i have to say is FUCK BRAND NAME!
I hate that shit were u go in to a car sound place and they send you stright to the good EXSPENCIVE shit.
I have no job and when i have a job it pays shit so i get all my NO NAME BRANDS on great prices and great sound.
to most peolpe who are tone deaf it dont matter if is got the latest comp subs, amps, tweeters, wire or deck it comes down to if it sounds good.
I have had SHIT subs for over 3 years and ive only had one fuck up BUT that was my fault had it in the boot sounded great but i was running to much gain for the sake of the great sound in the car when it was so shit in the boot u cant tell if its running good or shit.
AND heres one for the pipe!
Ive got a mate who has a VN calias it has
2 12" blupukit subs
buget wiring
shnider 2 chanel amp
weconic 2 chanel amp
liner series 4"2ways
6" no names in back
eat that
and to top it off he enter a sound off came 6th out of 23
cars at 137.6Db (the highest was 157.5Db with 12 12" subs)
and he came first in the loudest at 137.6DB with the cheepst steza at $1500 and second had 127.9Db with a $7000 steza so how u think the fella in 2nd felt when he was blitzd buy a cheep nasty steza so do your homr work.
DONT BAG THE CHEEP THEY ARE JUST AS GOOD
SEE YA
