Hi all,
I realise this has been posted a million times and we should all be officionados enuf to be able to tell models apart (I can with the old shape .
I just picked myself up a TF SL/X yesterday.
She is in almost immaculate condition, drives like a dream (according to my pilot, I can't drive with a fuqqed up knee), is about 99.9% complete, all for the 'break the bank' sum of $300! So little rust it's not funny, higher spec cloth trim, 4spd and all the trimmings, including the original manual and service logs in the glove box!
According to the previous rego and the compliance plate she is an 1982 model, yet she has the later model RWD look, with the flat headlights, slat grille and the larger reverse light lenses. My question is, what changed from here until 1984, very little?
Anyways, the plan is to:
1) Put my wheels and tyres from my TX on. They are 14x5.5 but I may have to do something in the future as these things came std with 5" wide rims didn't they? So a set of 15x6 will be necessary.
2) Change the engine over for my TX engine, slightly worked with Weber and extractors etc. The only hurdle here will be the fuel pump setup, so I will have to rig up the electric one in the tank from my TX. Why did they change this over to mechanical? IMHO the machanical setup sucks (no pun intended ;)
3) Replace the shox with my still good Monroe Touring Gas. She has air shox and a towbar out back. Who knows what she has towed, I might keep the bar there just so I can back into ppl if they piss me orf, hehe, ROAD RAGE!!
Any tips on getting this roadworthy in VIC would be appreciated. I want to run as close to std as possible with only mods to make her more reliable and safe. I will have to retain or fake the pollution gear. I am hoping the electric fuel pump setup won't cause hassles.
Any tips, ideas would be greatly appreciated. She will be mainly a means of quick and reliable transport until I start building up a Wagon in ernest.
Oh, and the colours are the clincher! Buttercup yellow with Tan and Brown interior!! Woohoo! I can proclaim to be driving the fastest piece of baby sh!t in town!
I'll be on the road again in no time
Benjamin
