hey guys i just got a g161 bore to 2lt with a 2l crank and flycut piston. anyway im thinking of turboing it while i have the time and while its out of the car.
i can do most of the plumbing work myself but i was after some info on a good setup and what turbo would be best suited. ( i was thinking of blow through)
and some pictures on a job like this. and how much would the job cost?
i going to use dish top piston in it, to drop comp. and i was after a suitable head that will keep the comp down.
is there any heads that will bolt on my block that are already turbo, for example piazza head?
all information will be a great help
thanks |

it would be best to find a g200 head and use that to lower the comp (no chance with the piazza head), otherwise cc everything and work out what current static compression is and use a thick copper head gasket if you think you can get away with it. I found the hardest part getting a decent exhaust manifold and the right turbo, but thats still pretty easy. A few people have been using 32/36 webers or similar, but if you can get a 40dfav off an old v6 capri then that would be much better. You will probably need to make up an air box to sit on the carb for the blow through set up, as there is not really enough room under the hood to fit the cross over pipe. Then use a rising rate fuel reg and fuel pump to get the fuel into it. |

The weber should be ok, will just need re-jetting. I have heard that the floats can crush under pressure so it can be a good idea to inject them with some sort of filler, just make sure it floats. Good luck trying to find a g200 head, there out there, but pretty rare. turbo will depend on what sort you want to use, what condition, hiflowed etc. you should be able to pick up a stock turbo off a wrx fairly cheeply as a fair few people upgrade them for bigger units, or get a t3 etc.. just depends how much boost you want to run, if your going to intercool it etc. |

id be real carefull putting a g200 head on a g161/g180 block, ive heard from someone that the g200 head needs an extra coolant well from the block to serve water to a hotspot - and as only the g200 blocks have that well.
anyone else heard info on this? |

yeah i should be able to get a g200 head from a wrekers down the road 4 about $200
yeah with the turbo it dosnt need to be anything too big. a wrx turbo sounds ok 4 the job. ill quote one 2moro.
and with the air box could someone give me a idea on how to make one? a picture would be a great help.
and i was also thinking would the flat top pistons be ok 4 the job because that is what the block has in it now. or will i need to get dish top 4 sure? |

Dont think a wrx turbo is small and not very good. On a gemini they're still good for more than 170rwkw. And they are easy to hiflow etc as there are heaps of different trims etc available for them. |

I dont think this is correct, I am running a G200 with a 1600/1800 head and I'm pretty sure the blocks are identical in the water jacket department.
Plust there is the fact (although I havn't used one before) that the g200 and the rest of the heads are supposed to be identical, with the only variances being in the volume of teh combustion chamber, valve size and port design. There is no real chance of getting an increase in hot spots without at least changing the design of the combustion chambers so that all the combustion occurs in a concentrated location, or something like that.
What I am really getting at is if there is no published hot spot issues with a 1600/1800 head, I cant see how there could be with a G200 head due to their similarities. |

Hey Andre,
I have been selling turbo kits for a while now, give me your email address and I can send you a price list of the kits, and some photos which may be useful. You can pick seperate compnonets from the kits if you like, to get your setup complete.
Cheers!

the water jackets on the g200 are slightly different to the g160, if your having the head rebuilt then you can get them to mach it up to a g160 gasket, but you can probably get away without doing it. The g200 heads were a slightly different design and tend to crack more often than a g160 |

A good choice might be a t25 or t28. They are inexpensive, fairly common, and are easily upradable to bigger Nissan turbos or the GT series (roller bearing). Think about it. |
