pinion nut = 300nm/220ft-lb (early shim type) or tighten to get 2.8nm of preload (spacer type)
crownwheel bolts = 68nm/50ft-lb
bearing cap bolts = 61nm/45ft-lb
apparently the diff used in gemini's is the small salisbury type as used by the uc torana whitch had the available ratios of 2.78,3.08,3.36 and 3.9:1, also the diesel diff had a ratio of 3.58:1 but i'm unsure if that diff is the same though i suspect it would be, a thought just occurred to me, and that is i'm almost positive the early commodore also used the same diff in the 6 cyls, did they have an lsd option?, anyway i digress, to change the ratio of your gemini diff it should be as simple as getting the appropriate ratio diff from the uc, dismembering it to obtain the crownwheel and pinion and present your local diff shop with the new crownwheel, pinion and your diff, pay cash and away u go, but check with them first, locking the diff is easy with a mig if you know what you are doing, weld the pinion gears to the side gears one weld at a time till cherry red then walk away till cool, in an open diff this will mean four welds, happy migging! |
