Is the thermostat the right temperature? One thing to remember when flushing Geminis is to take it for a run with the heater open that way you circulate the water around it as well. They can develop an airlock or cruddy water can stay in the heater core.

A bonnet scoop will not cool the engine. The only purpose of a scoop (apart from looking dicky on a Gem that doesn't have a V8 or a mutha of a 4) is to provide a fresh, cold air intake to the carby/inlet. To do it right you should seal around the filter so that ONLY air from the scoop enters the filter. This means maybe a rubber sealed metal plate under the filter to stop hot 'dirty' air from entering the carb.

What kinda scoop is it? I like what they call NACA ducts, which aren't scoops as such, but like the ones on Ferraris and the like, a little more aerodynamic than a wart sitting above bonnet. Don't get me wrong though, some scoops look pretty mad :)

Cheers
