last night i was driving through a 60km zone and there was a speed camera and i must have been going 63km MAX! well the bastard flashed me for that Sad

what i wanna know is, if you put bigger wheels on your car, 16" 45 series i know its hardly noticeable, but does the speedo show less speed then what your doing or more????

The profile of the tyre makes it so that the actual diameter of the wheel is unchanged. 45 profile on 16s im sure doesnt change the overall size of rim with tyre

but yes it does change the rolling diameter a little!! so it does show less speed than what u r doin

When you get the infringement, explain in writing how you only just recently had diff sized wheels put on and the people at the tyre place never told you it would put your speedo out, and you feel hard done by because you never knew this and asked if any changes had to be makde to your vehicle to allow for the larger wheels and tyres. Suck up big time and say something like ... I am really upset by this and I intend to take things futher with the tyre place as well and that the management there had a duty of care to ensure your car was legal with the new wheels, and by not informing you that the wheels would change your speedo readings is a breach of duty of care by them.

Or some kinda bullshit like that. Everyone has a duty of care somewhere .. you say you asked if any adjustments then the tyre place has a duty of care to inform you of any changes.

63km/h... wow, thats a close estimate on a gemini speedo (however you may have had an aftermarket one)

yeh it does change the speedo's reading.
i had 14 inch rims with 185/60 and i had it checked. it turned out that when the speedo said 45 it was50 and 70 it was 80. Why dont the police listen to people when you tell them 'i swear to god officer, i was only doing 60'??

It won't make any difference... you can't fight the establishment.. they will bend you over and fuck ya till you squeal like a pig and give in.

According to the law, unless you have standard rims & tyres on the car and a correctly calibrated speedo, the ownus is upon YOU to make sure the speedo is displaying the correct result. They will follow it up because the man sitting in the car would have seen you drive past and would note the different tyres. Keep in mind when you send them a letter it goes to the senior officer, and then sent down to the officer who was on duty to make a report, then sent back to the senior officer to be written to you.

I just got out of a fine for $40 plus 2 other fees which makes it $85 for doing 61 in a 40 zone where there were NO SIGNS DISPLAYED!! hows that for democracy boys? I got photo evidence and a good lawyer from the RAA. No demerits, no conviction, but I STILL had to PAY!!! Again: you can't fight the establishment and win!

So umm what happens if the police were in the wrong and you were in the RIGHT Pete. Do you still think that you cant fight them and let them get away with it ? You would be surprised how easy it is in many circumstances to get away with minor traffic infringements. I know. I have done it. And I have worked in that field in Criminal Law and worked enough with Traffic Law.

Make sure you get what you are entiteld to, no matter what the situation. Who do the police have to monitor them when they are monitoring us ? Apart from the Ombudsman, NO ONE ! That is where we come into it. But hey, if ya wanna sit by and let it all go on that is up to each individual.

Get what he is *ENTITLED* to?!?!..What the hell are you talking about?...All that he is "entitled" to, is a bloody fine, for *BREAKING-THE-LAW*. Simple. You speed, you know the risk, you get busted, bad luck, pay your fines and move on. If you are going to have a whinge (and i'm not suggesting he WAS actually having much of a whinge in this situation), don't bloody speed! You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Who do the police have to monitor them?? Apart from the ombudsman? *nobody*?? I can't believe i'm hearing this...from a *LAW* student. Ever heard of ESD??? (Ethical Standards Department; for all the nimwits)
