i am in the process of choosing a new carby for my te gem and have been recommended by numerous people to get twin webbers which seem to be the only option in perrformance carby's. Are there any alternatives to the webber or are they the superior choice in performance carby's.
cheers, bob |

Webbers are chosen for better throttle response and better tunability. A set of downdraught webbers work great, with awesome throttle response , great top end and when well tuned, reasonable fuel consumption.
My personal favorite is a four barrel holley, ie a 465cfm.
Youll need a fair bit of work to flow that much air, but it is worth it. You dont get anywhere near as good throttle response from the holley as opposed to the webbers, but when your staged at the christmas tree, who really cares about throttle response. Its all about the best et, not who can race quickest on the street from a roll start at 40km an hour etc. thats all bullshit. theres no consistancy. Run a time at your local quarter mile and then youve got a figure to brag about. A holley has worse throttle response, but will make more torque in the midrange and will still outflow a pair of webbers up top, so when your dropping the clutch at 3000rpm, it will be much quicker than a similar pair of webbers. |
