I dunno... slow as shit??? like most of em are... (1600's that is) I haven't tried to "pull any times" coz I know I wouldn't with a dead 1600... maybe with the new 1800 once it's all done in 2-3 weeks....
damn undersquare motors...

I remember when I started playing with my first 1600. bought a G-tech, it did a 19 falt quarter mile in standard form. Got it to low 17's with a 32/36, 1mm off the head, mild port cleanup, crow cam, genie extractors and 2.25" super turbo equipped exhaust.
Re-reinged the engine, crazy port job, It was a TD and already had big inlet valves, another 1.5mm off the head (around 9.6:1, but I shouldn't have used the old pistons, they were too worn and I was getting blowby), used old pistons, ground valve reliefs into them, shortenned the skirts (never bothered to balance them), they looked okay though, ported the inlet manifold in the plenum area (very important in my opinion), and ran a 16.4 sec quarter @ around 140k's.
This engine never saw the dyno. Probably around 90hp. I was stingy and never bought a new timing chain tensioner, it shitted itself and my valves smaked the pistons. End of that motor.
Incidently, when I first built my 2 litre, 8:1 compression, 1800 Pollution head, good port job, bigger TD inlet valves, balanced everything, ligtenned flywheel, same carb and inlet manifold, same exhaust setup, standard cam, pulled the same quarter mile time and speed (16.4). Shows how much displacement helps. Bolted the turbo on, instant flat 15 @ 7psi.
Tuning has brought this combination to a predicted high 12's, flat 13, about 250hp@flywheel. 165+ @rw on the dyno. Should have 300hp soon, aiming for 11's. |
