gday
I own a fully worked 1.8L , and the problem is it goes out of tune every 3 or 4 months.
does anyone else that has the same problem?
I was talken with a mechanic said that if u rev a Gemini engine over about 5500 - 6000
occasionally over about 3 months the engine will be out of tune .. is this true
one last question , IM looken for a electric dissy for a Gemini , does anybody know were
to buy a good electronic dizzy setup from and how much it costs. if anyone has a
electronic setup on there dizzy , is it worth it changing to electronic?

Define out of tune. Points wearing, timing out, idle mixture bad, rocker adjustment needed?????? what exactly do you mean? |

the points man, they go out of wack after a few months of high reving , i know the points are out when i rev my car at to about 5600 revs the pistons start to miss . but with the points in tune my 1.8 will happly rev to 6800 (no misses) |

You mean your fuel doen't ignite and your engine misses. If your points are wearing this quickly, then your are maybe running too mcuh voltage through them, or maybe not doing them up tight engough.
Do you still have your resitor wired in series with your coil? This is the white cermaic block located next to your coil?
You might want to ring some wreckers, esecially commercial wreckers and ask for an electronic distributor from a rodeo or jackaroo. A 1600 electronic dizzy will also fit in your engine, but they are harder to find. |

yeah the resistor is wired up but i dont have it bolted down , because when i bolt the resistor down and go to start my engine nothing happens the lights on my dash just dim like there is a short or something so i just leave the resistor unbolted from the chasses, does it have to be bolted down in order for the timing to stay right?
thanks 4 ur help man |

Sounds like you have a short in the resistor somewhere, you should be able to see it, or else you shouldn't have trouble bolting down the resistor. Maybe the fault in the resistor is making it colse to zero resistance so that you effectively have no resistance, which would explain why your points keep buring.
Maybe you should take it too an auto elec. and describe your problem with your resitor, and ask them to fix it. This will probably also fix your points problem. |
