hey guys and gals,
Just wondering, I have a twin 40mm sidedrafts lined up and I hear that they are illegal (I'm in VIC). $2000 fine was what I've been told (very steep!!), so has anyone ever been unlucky enough to have been fined?? are the risks high, do I have a good chance of getting away with it?? is it worth it (without getting the fine i mean)??
thanks for the input
cheers!.. |

that's a crock..who told you that? the most you could get is a $400 fine for lack of pollution gear, non standard filters. |

not in nsw, the workshop who did it would get 10,000+. but you would, as ember said, get jack shit. i mean realistically who has 10 000 lying around?... no-one and they know it. |

AFAIK, as long as you reconnect the pollution gear and the air filters have the same pollution function as the standard one, and that induction noise isn't over a certain level, there are no problems. I have a brochure from VIC roads here, I'll check it and get back to you.
I know a guy recently who got pulled over by the EPA who had twin 45's on his datto 1600. He had long ram tubes and filter socks over them. He didn't have any carb related pollution gear as the car was quite old, but he got done for induction noise. |

For a start, he said he was in Vic. And yes, you *CAN* get up to $5k or some shit fine, but realistically, they aren't going to fine you that much. I know plenty of people who have aftermarket carbs on their gems/commodores/toranas and shit, that don't abide by emission laws, and i'm yet to see someone get booked. But, it COULD happen.

That's so harsh.
The worst you get in SA is a defect sticker. |

YAY! cheers!!
regency time... my car is ALMOST all LEGAL!!! YYAAAAAAYYY Regency approved.
I'm also getting a cert. for 17" on a gemi with 5 stud pattern, so eventually I'll be able to tell you what to get. or perhaps even arrange something cert. wise :)
If they've approved it on one, they can't deny another.
Todd. |
