Is there any point in just re-ringing an old motor without either a mild honing or re-bore??
The motor doesn't blow smoke (yet) but i feel the compression isn't what is was 8 months ago.
I am working on a limited budget...just need a reliable putt-around vehicle... |

If you want a reliable 'putt-around' vehicle, I wouldn't be worrying about the condition of the rings, especially since its not blowing smoke and I assuem ti is not noticable consuming oil.
You should always hone or deglaze the cylinders when installing new rings, as they have to bed in, which often doesn't happen poperly on unprepared cylinders. You would just be wasteting time/mony if you didn't get it honed. It only costs $60 or so at your local machine shop.
