dual voice coil help

ok, my new sub is dual voice coil operated. i got connection guides for 2, 4, 8 and dual 4ohm operations. how does the dual 4ohm work out??? i dont get the diagrams! like do such as the dual 4 ohm operation, do the diagrams come from the plugs at the back of the box?

wats the best ohm operation to run on my sub. i guess its best for me to use trial and error. :s

Its not so much a question of what is the best impedance setting for your sub, its more a question of what amp are you running it off? If your amp is stable down to 2ohm in mono (bridged) mode, then 2ohm is best, however, if your amp isn't stable at 2ohm mono, then you'll need to wire it up as a 4ohm mono load. I don't really recommend using one voice coil per channel, as unless your headunit has a dedicated sub-out, then you can run into trouble with your sub trying to push and pull at the same time. my amp is a 2x 300w bridged into 1x 600watt

yeah, but is that 1x600 watt at 4 ohms? or 2? I'm guessing it is 4... what make and model is your amp

You can't wire a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub to give 4 ohms... only 8 or 2....

As asked by QldRobbo, what brand and model is your amplifier? Unless you've got a $500+ amplifier, then you'll find that you can only run the amp at 4ohm in bridged mode. As far as wiring your sub up, to present a 4ohm load to your bridged amp, you will need to wire up one voice coil only to the amp, that will present a 4ohm load to the amp. Cheers Smile

Didn't think of that, I'm just used to using both voice coils with amps that can handle 2ohms...

Anyway, unfortunately if your amp is only 4ohm bridged, then you will have to sacrifice some of your sub's potential and run only one voice coil... let us know if your amp is 4 or 2 ohm though

You'll need to tell us more info regarding the brand and model of both the amp and the subwoofer. I'm intersted to hear if you purchased these new and if so, were they from the same supplier. From the info you have given so far it seems you might have a bit of a missmatch of components.
