Best bang for buck is a turbo kit, for the $1000-5000 you will spend, you will get better performance than if you stuck with big cam, high compression, etc.
However, its usually not roadworthy, so its a tradeoff. Engineers certificates cost money, and depending on what state you are in, some mods are easilly signed off, others aren't.

i would've thought that the rx7 s4/5 turbo would be too laggy. you seen how big the exhaust housing is on those things? don't forget they were designed for a rotary which rev's to the buggery so if they come on a bit late (compared to a piston engine, eg. gemini), it won't make much difference because there is still plenty of revs left. |

for a street car I would get a 1800 reco'd, put a 2L head on it for lower comp.
Find a rodeo injection manifold (or piazza) and run injection, use the piazza exhaust manifold and run a smaller turbo, like the t28 as said before.
Find yourself a cheap second hand microtech fuel only computer (mt4 or something) and an electric dizzy and ign module. The mt4 is a piece of piss to wire up.
Tune the engine well and you should have no problems running mild boost.
I've never done it, but I've read the rantings of wise man Ben Wight and he's daid time and time before "a good stock motor will run boost if tuned properly" |
